How did you get into the industry?
Patience, happy accidents, observation, a couple of college degrees, saying "yes", and should probably give Ennio Morricone/Stanley Kubrick/Alan Lomax/David Lean/David Lynch/Sergio Leone/Alfred Hitchcock/many others some props.
What inspires you?
My kids, trees, spicy food, things built to last, isolation in nature, the inexhaustible material of great minds who came before...
What is your hometown?
Minneapolis
Favorite restaurant?
Bar La Grassa and Barbette never fail.
What do you like to do on the weekends?
If I should happen to notice I am on a weekend, then the world is my oyster.
What is your favorite band or type of music?
Oh, this is too big. Circle the globe 1964-1972, Yo La Tengo, Nina Simone, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Bach, Fela Kuti, Velvet Undergound, Julian Lage, Os Mutantes, John Fahey, Neko Case, Charles Ives, Claude Debussy, how does this list end for anyone?
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
If you don't value yourself, don't expect others to do so.
What book, movie read/seen recently you would recommend and why?
-"How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy" and "Saving Time: Discovering a Life Beyond the Clock" by Jenny Odell- Both topics are needing immediate examination in our world.
-"Homo Sapiens" by Yuval Noah Harari- Good to remember how the nascent phase of our species still influences us currently.
-"The Coddling of the American Mind" by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt- deeply researched examination of societal tensions through the lens of cognitive behavioral therapy.
Are you a traveler or a homebody? Why?
Must we pick one? Contrast yields perspective.
